I am officially declaring that I want to be in Boston, Massachusetts in 1090 days. It will be two days past my 45th birthday. The qualifying time for women age 45-49 is 4:00:59. We'll see how I do in just under six weeks, but I think that I can run that time in the next couple of years.
Yup. I caught Boston Fever! The whole world seems to have had it this year. I am sure it is unbelievable in person. I was in tears watching Kara Goucher kick down the stretch. I was standing in front of my television yelling "go, go, go!!" I really wanted her to catch them. I felt really bad for her, since I know how hard she has been working.
In my world, I am doing a mini-taper week before my half marathon on Sunday. My marathon training schedule calls for six easy miles yesterday and a seven mile tempo run tomorrow. Instead, I went on a nice 16 mile bike ride along the coast yesterday. It was a wonderful way to beat the heat out by my house and save my shins a bit. I don't think I'll be doing my tempo run, since Sunday will pretty much be a tempo run. My shins are bothering me, so I may actually skip my run completely tomorrow to rest them. We'll see.
I hope everyone is having a good week. happy running.
**I am editing to throw a little credit where credit is due. I decided to write this post after reading Irish's post the other day about Boston fever. I admired that she put her goal out there and I felt like I needed to do it (ha ha ha...no pun intended) as well. Thanks for inspiring me to commit.

I fully expect you to be running in Boston on that date, Lisa (if not before then)! And who knows, maybe I'll just have to join you ;)
Good luck with the half-marathon on Sunday!! I have a feeling it's going to go really well for you--can't wait to read about it!
I can't wait to log on to the computer on that date and track your progress. You will make it and you will kick some butt.
Good luck on Sunday. Enjoy the race.
How exciting! I'd love to BQ someday, but I've got about 7 years until 45 and I don't think I have much hope before then.
Good luck! I'll be rooting for you.
It seems like it's meant to be, with your birthday falling just before the day! I know you can do it. On the Boston topic, did you ever see NOVA's Marathon Challenge? It's about a group of people of varying abilities who sign on to train for and run Boston (they didn't have to qualify). It was pre-Spirit of the Marathon. It's really interesting and enjoyable. It used to be availabe to watch online at the NOVA website (don't know if it still is) and is on DVD.
Way to set a goal for yourself! Geez Lisa... do you go big or what! LOL
I'm not liking that your shins are still bothering you... are you stretching your calves? Are you icing at night?
Great goal... I'm going to do the same. Not the same date... the same age! :-)
I had the Boston Marathon playing on my computer while I was working and I was tracking my friends' progress on the course. I so wish I could have been there, even as a spectator! The energy seems amazing!
Great goal! Good luck with your half on Sunday!!
You can do it!
I keep thinking that if I keep running, I'll BQ when I'm about 70 :-))
I believe anyone can qualify for Boston. I think the requirements are: a good training plan that fits your lifestyle and body type (susceptibility to injury), determination and hard work. Good luck and make the dream come true! Ana-Maria
